Meet The Team
Kevin Gill - Treasurer"Born and bred at Treswithian Downs, which is on the outskirts of Kehelland village, the Red River has always been part of my life, especially the Bell Lake area, where after school, with my brothers and our homemade bamboo fishing rods, fished for Tench & Rudd in Bell Lake and at dusk, we would feed the bread we used for bait to the water voles that swam across the lake, sadly the voles are no longer there.
In 2014, I was taking photos in Bell Lake Marsh when out of the scrub this bloke appeared with a big lens in his hands he introduced himself as Steve Jones, and as the conversation progressed, we realised that we were in the same year at school some thirty years earlier. To cut a long story short, Steve invited me to the next scrub bash, where I met other like-minded people and have been hooked ever since." |
Laura Fox - Site Recorder
"I’ve always lived in and around Camborne, and spent most of my childhood living in the village of Kehelland, where we often went for walks down to the river at Menadarva. Even after we moved out of the village, as a teenager I continued to visit Menadarva for birdwatching. After leaving school, I decided I really wanted to do something good for wildlife, so I studied conservation at Duchy College and I gained my degree at Cornwall College in 2012. I now have my dream job working as a Wildlife Information Officer at the Environmental Record Centre for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly (ERCCIS). It was at one of the ERCCIS workshops that I met Steve, who introduced me to the Red River Rescuers. It’s such a great feeling to be out making a difference and enhancing a truly wonderful site for nature that I grew up with. Since I started watching birds as a teenager, I have expanded my interest to include all wildlife, and am now heading the Red River recording effort. Post your Red River sightings on our Facebook Group page or email me at: [email protected]"
